Youfoodz couple’s life of luxury exposed

THE embattled director of meal delivery giant Youfoodz has been spotted at a $4.7 million Brisbane apartment as more allegations emerge against the company of wage theft, bullying and discrimination towards the company's migrant workers.

We can reveal fresh documents allege several Youfoodz employees have made formal complaints they have not been allowed to take legal minimum breaks and have had breaks deducted from their wages when no breaks have been taken.

The United Workers Union said the matters were forwarded to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.

It comes after director Lance Giles and his partner, Jordana Stott, were recently scrutinised for posting culturally insensitive videos involving Asian people.

In a separate incident, The Courier-Mail last week revealed Punjabi employees were allegedly exposed to racist issues, including physical attacks.

While his workers protest their alleged mistreatment, company records state Giles' address is at an upmarket full-floor Kangaroo Point apartment.

The 120sq m apartment has panoramic city and river views, 2.76m-high ceilings and its own private lobby, but Mr Giles said he had no ties to the property, it was owned by another party and "holds no relevance to myself personally or to Youfoodz as a company".

He said the company had "repeatedly asked the United Workers Union over a period of several months for details into alleged complaints from said migrant workers".

"The United Workers Union have not complied nor responded to such requests. Most recently, Youfoodz has written to the president of the United Workers Union to address this matter, to no response," he said in a statement.

Mr Giles said the company would take legal action against the union and the matters in the documents had been "investigated, dealt with and closed out appropriately".

WHSQ said it had "no concerns in terms of policies, procedures and systems for addressing bullying and harassment issues that constituted a breach of the legislation" at the company. Other issues workers claim they are exposed to include attacks, threats, nepotism and favouritism.

The complaints include conspiring to implicate employees in fights so they will lose their roles, planning attacks on people, not allowing workers to take legal minimum breaks, and deducting breaks from workers' wages when no breaks were taken.

Other complaints include only family members of supervisors being rostered on shifts and providing shifts that attract penalty rates to relatives.

Workers have also allegedly been threatened for taking leave and have had their shifts reduced.

United Workers Union food and beverage director Susie Allison said the behaviour by the company was "disgraceful".

"(Youfoodz) should be focused on ensuring their workers can go to work and come home safely, with fair pay and conditions," she said.
