Woolies takes shopping to the next level
WOOLWORTHS has opened its most advanced store in Queensland.
Shoppers will see a raft of changes in the store, dubbed internally "Woolworths 3.0", including a drive-through service area with dedicated parks to collect online shopping, an expanded range of ready to eat meals and made to order cakes.
Woolworths Queensland state manager Matthew Franich said the Ascot store was a premium offering for a premium catchment area.
"This is a next generation store, it's the result of us listening to our customers and working with their insights and understanding how their shopping expectations have changed whether it be the product or whether it be how they actually shop with us between pick up, online or coming into the store," he said.
An onsite butcher, a machine making fresh flat bread, a cheese cave with a large international selection and flame roasted rotisserie chickens are among the new premium features of the store.
The fresh produce area was designed with a "market feel" and an expanded range of health food and ready to eat meals were all instituted off the back of customer feedback.
By using an app to alert the store you are on your way shoppers will be able to park in a dedicated area for online pick up and not need to get out of the car.
Mr Franich said he expected busy parents to take advantage of the store to boot service.
Recent figures show the demand from customers to shop online has grown 28 per cent.
The supermarket has also introduced "Ready to Create" meal kit bags similar to Hello Fresh, Youfoodz or Marley Spoon, the first meal kit concept available at a mainstream Australian retailer.
The new store draws on many of the elements rolled out earlier this year as part of a renewal of the Marrickville Metro store in Sydney, with some new features added for Brisbane shoppers.
"Customers responded positively to the new elements we included at Marrickville Metro ...However Ascot customers will have access to new features as well, like on-trend Poke bowls from the Sushi bar," Mr Franich said.
Local brands available at the include; Maleny Cuisine, Belladotti, The Homemade Collection, Noosa Natural Chocolate Company, Bush Honey, Popcorn Lovers, Maleny Dairies, Queensland Yoghurt Company, Kenilworth Dairies, Wild Breads and Grove Juice.
The supermarket will be staffed by 127 employees.

Fruit and vegetables: Special water misters have been installed to help keep things fresh.
Deli: Customers can pick up cured meats sliced to order and select from 90 delicious in the cheese cave.
Flame-roasted chicken: Free-range chicken marinated with breadcrumbs, herbs and the juice of half a lemon - and hand-stuffed in-store. It's then flame-roasted for 30 minutes.
Bakery: Order custom-made party cakes and fresh-made pastries at the bakery with 48 hours' notice.
Butcher: A new and free "bag and bake" service is also available in meat and poultry, including Memphis Smokey BBQ, Cajun Seasoning, Herb and Garlic, and Portuguese Seasoning marinades.
Seafood: All of the fresh fish is caught in Australia and New Zealand. Free "bag and bake" service also available.
Expanded health food range: An extensive range of certified organic products, including loose nuts, seeds and grains, and gluten-free range to suit various dietary requirements.
Sushi: Fresh sushi made to order including platters. Hot options on the takeaway menu, include poke bowls, katsu chicken and teriyaki chicken.
Pickup: For those who choose to shop online and pick up their orders in-store, there is a dedicated pickup area at the front of the store, and a drive-through service to the side of the building with designated parking bays for store-to-boot convenience.
