Treasurer says it’s time to deliver for Bundy region
TREASURER Curtis Pitt has called on the Federal Government to lift its game and start delivering for Bundaberg and the Wide Bay ahead of today's budget.
Mr Pitt said the budget must provide for priority projects right across the state, especially additional Bruce Hwy funding around Bundy in recognition of its role as a key economic, export and tourism artery.
"While we have all heard the talk, we now need to see some action," he said.
"A good start would be to restore the $18 billion cuts to health and education imposed by the Abbott Government in its rightly described horror 2014 Budget.
"Those cuts translate to less money to support schools and hospitals in Bundaberg and the Wide Bay.
"While the last COAG meeting saw some extra funds allocated for public hospitals the cost of delivering health services are rising much more quickly than CPI inflation and the population.
"Queensland has always faced added challenges because of our decentralised nature and the many communities in rural and remote parts of our state.
