Tourists warned about holiday snaps with drones

TOURISTS visiting scenic seaside towns are being warned to think about air safety before flying drones to take photos and videos.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has received reports of drones being flown close to aircraft flight paths in tourist towns.

Headlands offer perfect ocean views and are ideal for drone pictures and they can also be on the final aircraft approaches to regional airports.

Flying a drone in an area where aircraft are operating at low altitudes poses a risk of collision or distracting pilots.

CASA said drones should not be flown within 5km of an airport and should be kept below 400 feet - 130m.
