Torched car linked to mechanic break-in

A BURNT out vehicle found at Cabarlah is believed to be the same car stolen from a Drayton mechanic at the weekend.

Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch detectives are investigating the break and enter of the Sowden St business.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said a 2014 Toyota LandCruiser wagon, registration 024TYA, was stolen from the premises sometime between 4.30pm Friday and 11pm Saturday.

He said it appeared the unknown offenders entered the workshop before making off with the vehicle kept in the business compound.

"The vehicle is still outstanding," Det. Snr Sgt McCusker said.

"A vehicle which was totally consumed by fire has been located on a forestry road in Cabarlah.

"At this stage, we haven't positively identified the vehicle."

He said the burnt vehicle matched the make and model of the stolen Toyota LandCruiser, but registration checks were still being completed by police.

"Police have located a vehicle and we are conducting inquiries to determine if it is the same one that was stolen," Det. Snr Sgt McCusker said.

He said it was unclear if other workshop tools and items had been stolen in the break and enter.
