Man critical after moped accident

A 64-YEAR-OLD man was airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital last night in a critical condition, following a traffic crash at the intersection of Barolin and Woondooma Sts.

Bundaberg police Inspector Kev Guteridge said it appeared the man had travelled through the intersection riding a moped and collided with a car about 4.45pm on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old woman driving the car was not injured, but the man was immediately taken by ambulance to Bundaberg Hospital suffering serious head injuries.

Insp Guteridge said motorcyclists were at an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

"Motorists need to be very mindful of the presence of motorcyclists on the road," he said.

"In particular, the fact they are not as visible as other forms of transport."

Investigations into the crash are continuing.
