BUNDABERG shoppers are being called on to dig deep for cancer research - and all they have to do is donate while others sweat it out.

NewsMail editor Christina Ongley was among the members of the community keeping the treadmill running for 12 hours by participating in the I Can for Cancer event, hosted by Hinkler Central shopping centre.

Shoppers have helped to raise about $1000 so far, and the Cancer Council is aiming for $5000 by the end of Sunday.

Centre manager Renee Pukallus said with one-in-two Queenslanders being diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, the event was something she wanted to support.

"We've been working closely with Cancer Council for many years now," she said.

"We are more than happy to help raise vital funds and awareness to help create a cancer-free future."

The challenge will continue on Sunday, so cheer the teams on and make a donation from 10am-3pm.
