Ruby Rose breaks silence on Veronicas feud

RUBY Rose has blamed her public feud with her girlfriend's twin sister on jet lag, conceding that "family is tough".

Speaking to Kyle and Jackie O on their radio show this morning, Rose opened up about life with her partner, Veronicas singer Jessica Origliasso.

"Every relationship has its ups and downs … we're long distance for the most part, and we make it work so well," she said.

Rose said she and her girlfriend had sought therapy in the past to better communicate with each other.

"I swear by it for every relationship: Therapy. It's the greatest thing for a relationship, ever.

We're at a point now where we properly know how to communicate at a long distance, which has been the hardest thing."

Asked by the radio pair if she and Jess ever fought in public, Rose said that, "we don't do that. I don't think we've ever done that before."

Perhaps not, but Rose did appear to pick a fight with her girlfriend's twin sister and fellow Veronicas member Lisa last month.

Rose shocked fans with a since-deleted tweet posted in the wake of Australia's historic same-sex marriage survey result, claiming Lisa had told them they "should feel 'lucky' we don't get stoned to death like they do in other countries and to get over it a few months ago". After deleting the tweet, Rose followed up by saying she "shouldn't stoop to her level" and to "not let the people below try to drag me down".

The infamous tweet.

Rose was cagey when asked about the feud on air.

"Umm … yeah … I don't know. Everyone wants what's best for everybody. I want them to be happy - I'm obviously the biggest fan of the band, ever. Number one fan. That was just a very emotional day," she said.

"In that emotional time - we'd just arrived in China, with jet lag and all - I could've handled myself differently, and I was definitely frustrated at the situation. Everyone's good now and working through it, and I think that's what's important. Family's tough."

Rose's Twitter outburst was followed by separate statements from both Lisa and Jess, each giving their side of what appears to be a fractious family feud.

"I may not have struggled with an inner turmoil, but that doesn't mean I haven't struggled with people close to me, degrading my sexuality because of their own personal judgments or ignorance," Jess wrote.

"People can publicly support the LGBT community, but behind closed doors inflict deep pain because of their own inability to accept or understand you as a part of that community.

"That can be a particularly difficult and heartbreaking experience. But one that has been a private and real struggle in my life."

Lisa responded in kind, denying any suggestion that she held homophobic views.

"This past week I have been accused of making intolerant statements and holding intolerant views," Lisa said. "I did not make those statements and I do not hold those views. Sexuality has never played a factor in my acceptance of people or their relationships.

"I have and always will continue to show my unwavering support for the LGBTI community with pride and continue to celebrate love, acceptance and tolerance within our country and community.

"Thank you to my friends and fans for your continuing love and support."

Last month the musical duo, who had previously announced they would release their fourth album by the end of the year, released a joint statement saying that "due to personal circumstances out of our control, we have made the decision to hold releases till 2018".
