Mining experiencing 'rapid growth': How you can get a job
"STANDOUT from the crowd" and have a good work ethic.
It's simple advice, but it could be the key to landing a job.
CTC Recruitment and Employment general manager Darryl Lapworth has been in the recruitment and labour hire industry for longer than he cares to remember, and from his Rockhampton hub is one link in the chain to curbing unemployment rates.
Mr Lapworth said given the abundance of "robot resume hunters" - people who put submitted their resume to any and every job - it was important to tailor your resume to meet the employers' requirements.
Those who don't tick the boxes wind up at the "bottom of the waiting pile".
Mr Laproworth said labour hire was particularly suited to emerging businesses as it offered a good starting point for their workforce, and "nine out of ten times" the contracts translated to full-time employment.
While he conceded unemployment was high in the region, and noted people had moved away due to a lack of job opportunities, he had noticed "rapid growth" in the mining, rail and agricultural sectors.
"We actually find the demand at the moment is growing pretty rapidly for mining and rail jobs; not construction really, but more on the breakdown side," he explained.
"Those sorts of things where they have to be mechanical fitters or they have to be diesel fitters for the equipment, we are finding huge demand for that," he said.
He attributed the rise in rail jobs to last year's record coal extraction, as well as Aurizon's growing demand for workers after scaling back their workforce.
"The more and more you drive on those lines the more they need to be upgraded and make sure they are safe for everyone to drive on as well," he said.
He said retail, hospitality and administration remained "stagnate".
CTC have just expanded their services to the CTC Recruitment and Employment Hub at 38 Armstrong St, North Rockhampton, which Mr Lapworth explained was a result of the company moving to a completely paperless organisation, and through cutting down overheads via more sustainable power choices.
He said esentially, the service allowed people to consolodate all of their qualifications, resumes and other required documents in one place with assistance from staff.
They will officially open the CTC hub on February 20.
