Robbie tipped for bizarre new TV role
Margot Robbie is apparently one of the names in the frame to play Joe Exotic in the upcoming Tiger King miniseries based on the wildly popular Netflix documentary of the same name.
While Kate McKinnon has already signed to play Carole Baskin, Robert Moor, the host of the podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King says while Sam Rockwell's name has been mentioned for Joe in the casting process, he actually wants Bombshell star Robbie to play the polyamorous big cat wrangler.
Moor hosts Joe Exotic the second season of Wondery's Over My Dead Body podcast. The deal for the miniseries was struck last November, way before the debut of hit Netflix doc Tiger King.
The series is being produced by studio UCP and has been optioned by NBC Universal with SNL star McKinnon to star and executive produce.
Speaking on Andy Cohen's SiriusXM show Radio Andy on Monday, Moor said he has been involved in the casting discussions. He said, "We've been talking a lot of names … (Jojo Rabbit star) Sam Rockwell was one of the names that came up a lot to play Joe Exotic."
Sounding completely serious, he continued, "My preferred casting - and this is off the wall - would be Margot Robbie. I think Margot Robbie should play Joe in a like a gender switch (thing) …"
When Cohen points out that Robbie is far too attractive to play Joe, Moor responded, "Just look at her eyes, that's the thing, if you look at her eyes, she has these eyes that are just like Joe's … I think she would do a great job with it."
When asked for other casting ideas, Moor said, "I heard (Talladega Nights star) John C. Reilly should play Doc Antle, I like that one a lot."
As stars including Edward Norton and Dax Shepard comically jostle on Twitter for the role of Joe Exotic, Moor asked fans to tweet at him @robertmoor_ with other fun Tiger King casting suggestions.
