Rugby league junior banned for life for attacking referee
A BUNDABERG junior rugby league player has been banned for life after attacking a teenage referee during a match at Maryborough's Eskdale Park on Sunday.
The Fraser Coast referee was assaulted by a player while controlling an under-14 match.
As he was a "travelling player", a judicial hearing was held that night.
The league gave the player a lifetime ban as well as a 15-year suspension from attending any games as a spectator.
Fraser Coast Junior Rugby League president Dan Sommerfeld said they took a strong stance to send a message that violence against referees would not be tolerated.
"This is not acceptable and we have a zero tolerance approach when it comes to these matters," he said.
