Resort offers coronavirus lockdown special
A PALM Cove beachside resort is cashing in on what is thought to be an impending lockdown as local coronavirus infection rates show no sign of slowing.
For $3500, Melaleuca Resort is offering fully self-contained one-bedroom apartments on Williams Esplanade for a two-month stay.
Included is free internet, Foxtel, electricity and Coles and Woolworths delivery.
Resort manager Margaret Coop said the deal was aimed at family members needing to get away from COVID-19 infected loved ones.
"It appears that we are or will go into a lockdown situation; I know they are heading down that path in Melbourne and Sydney," she said.
"If someone has got the virus they would isolate, their family would isolate and they can come here.
"We are not saying the people with the virus can come and stay but the people that need to get away from that person … they can come and stay.
"A family or even if there is just two people - they shouldn't share the same toilet and shower.
"We have just called it a lockdown to attract attention, it's nicer to be locked down here on the beaches than anywhere else."
Ms Coop said apartments at Melaleuca Resort each had a separate bedroom, lounge and dining area. They are equipped with a full kitchen, a private balcony and separate airconditioner for $400 a week.
