Residents get a helping hand to learn about iPads

SUNCARE Community Services client Valerie Gibson now has a better understanding of how to use her iPad, thanks to some hands-on help at Telstra's Digital Ambassadors workshop last Friday.

Valerie was among 15 Suncare carers and care recipients who participated in the workshop to learn about staying safe online and how to use mobile phones and tablets.

Community engagement manager Graeme Baxter said Suncare partnered with Telstra to increase its digital engagement with communities by introducing older adults to the constantly changing environment of the internet and smart devices.

The free workshop, the first of its kind in Bundaberg, was held as part of Telstra's Masterclass on the roll-out of the National Broadband Network (NBN) in the region.

"This workshop provided a valuable opportunity for people with different skills to better understand how to use their iPhones or tablets, Wi-Fi, Skype, and upload photos," Mr Baxter said.

"We have a shared concern with Telstra is to ensure this digital technology is introduced in an empowering and safe way to enhance the digital lives of our clients and local communities."
