UPDATE 2.15PM: THE accused murderer of Syeid Alam has appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court.

Mohammed Khan appeared before Magistrate Jeff Clarke on one count each of murder and interfering with a corpse.

Khan, who appeared composed in the docks, was represented by lawyer Grant Cagney and made no application for bail.

A woman and two children sat at the back of the court room with detectives, crying and motioning towards Khan at the end of the short proceedings.

It is believed the woman and children were Khan's family.

Khan was remanded in custody to reappear on June 29.

EARLIER: DETECTIVE Inspector Darrin Shadlow described the alleged murder of Syeid Alam as one of the most gruesome he has ever investigated in the Capricornia region.

Mr Alam was reported missing by his wife on April 6 after he didn't return home from a fishing trip on April 5.

His vehicle was located on April 7.

His remains were found by SES volunteers in an inlet off the Fitzroy River, near Macalister St, Park Avenue on April 16.

On April 18, the remains were identified as Mr Alam's and a post mortem on April 20 revealed he had been murdered.

On April 19, police located items belonging to Mr Alam near the Reaney St boat ramp.

On May 4, a crime scene was established at a 90 Dean St residence and items of interest were removed from the home.

Rockhampton CIB detectives this morning arrested and charged a 34-year-old Berserker man with the murder of Mr Alam.

Det Insp Shadlow confirmed Mr Alam was decapitated and described his alleged murder as a 'brutal killing'.

"The investigation into the murder of Syeid Alam has resulted in the arrest of a male person today for that murder," Det Insp Shadlow said.

"That male person will front the Rockhampton Magistrates Court later today.

""I will confirm that the deceased was decapitated but other than that I won't go into it any further in relation to any of the injuries or anything like that at this stage.

"It was quite brutal."

Det Insp Shadlow said the 34-year-old Rockhampton man, accused of murder and interfering with a corpse, was known to Syeid Alam.

"We want to make it clear to the Rockhampton public that it wasn't a random attack. The victim was known to the alleged offender," he said.

"They were both employees at a local meatworks.

Det Insp Shadlow confirmed the man lived at the Dean St, Berserker house, which was the focus of police investigations in the last two weeks.

"I won't go into what we located (at the Dean St home) however suffice to say it was enough for us to arrest the male person for the murder of Syeid Alam and put it before the courts," he said.
