Orchestra's international premiere live to regions
REGIONAL Queenslanders will be able to watch a live simulcast of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra's international premiere next month.
Journey through the Cosmos, starring physicist Brian Cox, will be simulcast live in Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Ipswich and Toowoomba.
Arts Minister Ian Walker, talking exclusively to APN Newsdesk, said on Wednesday the Queensland Symphony Orchestra was thinking big and aiming for the stars.
He said it was an incredible opportunity for regional Queenslanders to experience an extraordinary world first theatrical and orchestral presentation.
"It is especially important to me that regional Queenslanders will have the opportunity to experience Journey though the Cosmos," he said.
"Earlier this year we successfully simulcast the American Ballet Theatre's Swan Lake to regional Queensland and it is particularly rewarding to see our major organisations reaching out to communities in the regions so we can all share this wonderful arts moment."
QSO chief Sophie Galaise said the internationally encompassing program was the largest any symphony orchestra in Australia had ever undertaken.
She said the live simulcast was a first for the orchestra.
"Professor Brian Cox is seen by many as the heir to the great Sir David Attenborough," she said.
"He is fast becoming one of the most famous men on the planet and his interests are extensive as are his followers from the world of music, space and the evolution of this planet.
"To have him here to lead us on the Journey through the Cosmos is extraordinary."
