UPDATE 6:05AM: A CRIME scene has been established around a building in Berserker.

Police are appealing for witnesses as they investigate a suspicious fire at a vacant building in Berserker last night.

Around 7.54pm police were called to the building on Elphinstone Street following reports of a fire.  The fire was extinguished with moderate damage sustained to the building.

No one was injured as a result of the fire.

Investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire with police asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area to contact Crime Stoppers.

A crime scene has been established as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.

UPDATE, 8:21PM: Fire crews have extinguished the blaze which broke out at an Elphinstone St address near the corner of Bawden St.

Queensland Fire and Emergency services were first called about the fire at 7.49pm, and arrived on scene at 7.55pm.

They conducted a primary and secondary search of the house, and found no one inside.

Neighbours say they came rushing out to see smoke billowing from the house, which they say no one has lived in for at least 12 months.

Fire, ambulance and police service personnel remain at the scene.


8.01PM: QUEENSLAND fire and rescue service are at the scene of a house fire on Elphinstone St, North Rockhampton.

Initial reports indicate a large fire has broken out at the back corner of the building, but it is contained at this time.

Crews are currently having trouble locating the power source.

Police are blocking traffic to the road.
