Motivation found for first Div 1 win since 2009
MOTIVATION for players to perform in grand finals isn't usually hard to find and when Alloway took on Blazers Luxfield in the Division 1 grand final the extra drive they needed came from wanting to knock off the reigning premiers.
With Krystal Rouvray and Amanda Dohrman in great form in the circle Alloway cruised to a 51-38 win.
In the week leading up to the game Alloway suffered some major disruptions when sickness spread through the camp. Coach Lyn Newport had five fit players Wednesday night and had to wait until the eve of the game before she finalised her starting team.
After Alloway's first premiership since 2009 Newport said the expected toughness was in the game and there was one saying used by the players late into the night.
"It was a good game. We had good competition between the two teams," Newport said.
"They were determined to beat Blazers and they were pumped to win the game.
"We might be losing a few players for 2015 but for now, as the girls said, we are the champions."
As good as Rouvray and Dohrman were Newport praised all her players from the grand final.
Blazers might have been disappointed with the loss but can be proud of its achievements in 2014. After beating ATW in 2013 and losing players in the off season to make it to the decider was a great.
