MOTHER'S PLEA: 'Help me buy my family a home'

A HARDWORKING mother-of-three from Sippy Downs is searching for a benevolent private investor to help her do what the banks cannot - achieve the great Australian dream.

Joanne Gooch hopes to borrow $550,000 to buy a home for herself and her family after a couple of tough breaks forced them to shelve the idea of home ownership for a decade.

The 37-year-old has taken the unusual step of making a public request for a private home loan because she sees it as the only chance for her and husband, Jason, 41, to own their own home.

"I don't see myself qualifying for a mortgage from a bank," she said

The couple were forced to sell their first home in South Australia without profit 12 months after they bought it 10 years ago following problems with work done by their mortgage broker.

After moving to the Sunshine Coast two years ago, Mr Gooch was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and has only recently resumed work but on a part-time basis.

Mrs Gooch, a full-time bus driver, is the main breadwinner for the family, which includes two daughters, aged 15 and 12, and a son, 19, who lives and works in Brisbane during the week.

She hopes to buy a home in the Sippy Downs or Buderim areas near where they are settled.

Some of the family's belongings have not been unpacked since the last move and Mrs Gooch said it was "the little things" like that, or being able to hang children's artwork, that made her want to own her own home.

"We've been renting for the last 10 years. It's driving us crazy. You have to have permission to have a pet, you can't paint the walls, you can't plant a tree in the yard," she said.

"Jason and I both love gardening and have put a lot of time and effort into the gardens at a couple of places and then you move and you just lose it.

"I want stability and I want security - just to know that the landlord isn't going to turn around and sell our home."

Mrs Gooch emphasised that she was looking for someone who could offer a loan for a home, "not a gift of a freebie - they are going to get something back for it."

They currently paid $490 a week rent and could manage repayments on a loan but were unable to save the deposit required to buy something in the area, she said.

"To buy a house up here, you're looking at a $50,000 deposit and I would never be able to save that until I turn 75 and can access my super," she said.

"My ideal situation would be if someone loaned me $550,000. I have a personal loan and a Visa that I would like to pay out and that way, all my income would be going into my mortgage," she said.

"I'd like to pay $450 a week off the loan and an extra $50 a week as interest. It's not as much as they might get in interest elsewhere but they're still getting something back."

"I know I can pay it off. That's what frustrates me. In 10 years, I've never missed a rent payment.

"I know I can pay it off. If someone just gives me a chance."

Mrs Gooch said her job was secure, she had recently received a promotion, and she had insurance which would cover the amount of the loan if she died or was rendered unable to work through disability.

She intends to have legal documents drawn up for any loan.
