Monto outreach clinic reduces travel for families

MONTO children are receiving a new level of health care with the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service offering a new pediatric outreach clinic at Monto Hospital.

The clinic will be operated by Bundaberg Hospital pediatrician Dr Matt Wakeley and provide a local option to Monto families.

"This outreach clinic will provide local pediatric care to children from the Monto area, reducing the need to travel to Bundaberg for appointments," WBHHS chief executive Adrian Pennington said.

"All GP referrals to a pediatrician from the Monto area will be considered for this local clinic while current pediatric patients at Bundaberg Hospital can request to be seen by Dr Wakeley at the outreach clinic instead.

"The outreach clinic is planned to take place four times a year with the potential for these patients to use Telehealth at Monto for follow up appointments instead of travelling into Bundaberg.

"Providing this clinic is a great outcome for the Monto community as it will help many families who would have otherwise needed to travel to Bundaberg for appointments."

Dr Wakeley is looking forward to working at Monto with local families.

"Being close to home and saving the burden of travel creates less stress for the children and their families who need to attend paediatric appointments."
