Coast mayor, MPs unite in criticism of Palmer

THEY represent three different levels of government, but they are unanimous in their disapproval of Clive Palmer.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson, state MP Fiona Simpson and federal Member for Fisher Mal Brough did not hold back when asked to address "the Clive Palmer factor" by USC journalism lecturer and MC Jane Fynes-Clinton.

The trio was speaking as part of a panel at the Property Council of Australia lunch at the Lakehouse in Brightwater.

"One of his major promises was to generate the necessary funding for the Sunshine Coast international airport," Cr Jamieson said.

"I've sought repeatedly to meet with Mr Palmer and his senators to outline what's required, as yet I've had no luck with getting a meeting," he said.

Ms Simpson expressed sadness over job losses at the PUP MP's Palmer Coolum Resort.

"Stripping away the headlines, the saddest thing to me is the destruction of the Coolum Hyatt as one of the largest employers on the Sunshine Coast," she said.

"The impact of individual lives when you talk to people who used to work there is tragic."

And Mr Brough said the loss of the resort's PGA event was significant.

"That took away one of the great branding moments for our region ... then the 400-odd families who have lost their jobs," he said.
