Eagles’ Ryan investigated for domestic violence
WEST Coast Eagles premiership star Liam Ryan is being investigated over an alleged domestic violence incident in Kalbarri, 600km from Perth, on the weekend.
Police issued the 22-year-old with a 72-hour police order after they were called to an incident outside a motel in the mid-west town early on Sunday.
WA Police have not named Ryan but in a statement they confirmed they were called to an incident about 4.20am where they spoke to a 20-year-old woman.
As a result of investigations, police later spoke to a 22-year-old man in Kalbarri, who was subsequently issued with a 72 hour police order.
No complaint has been made to police.
Ryan was a member of the Eagles' premiership last month and played a key role in Dom Sheed's match-winning goal.
The first-year star took a strong mark and quickly played on before finding Sheed deep in the MCG pocket.
The Eagles released a statement on Monday following the revelations.
"The West Coast Eagles are investigating an alleged incident over last weekend in Kalbarri that involved small forward Liam Ryan being issued with a move on notice," it read.
"He obeyed the move on notice and it is believed the incident involved a family dispute. The club will be working with Liam to establish the details.
"The club remains cognisant of Liam's health and wellbeing and will work closely with him to ensure those considerations are prioritised. Once the club has established the facts around the allegations it will release further information."
A police order is issued when there is insufficient evidence to arrest and charge a person over allegations of family and domestic violence but police hold concerns for the safety and welfare of a person.
A police order provides temporary but instant protection for a person who is being threatened, harassed or intimidated. It provides temporary relief to allow the opportunity for a person to attend court to obtain a Restraining Order.
Police may issue a Police Order without the requirement to obtain consent from any person.
