Kalkie set to to be a cool school
A KIND gesture from a local businessman means Kalkie State School should receive the air conditioning it needs.
Local builder Rueben Bauer has agreed to install air conditioner units in the school for every house and land package deal he sells, with two installed yesterday.
"I was with my two daughters at the recent school fundraiser disco which was being held to raise money to get air conditioners," he said.
He met deputy principal Patrick Cause and made him an offer.
Mr Cause said it was an incredible offer with both students and staff very grateful. "It would have taken us about five years to get the eight air conditioners we needed," he said. "The units would have cost us $3,200 each."
"Having a cool room keeps the students calm and helps provide a great learning environment," he said.
Mr Bauer said his father attended the school in 1924.
"I've got two daughters there now and two kids will be there soon," he said.
