Junior table tennis finals on Friday
THE finals of the Bundaberg Radiology Term 2 Junior Table Tennis season will be played on Friday following some exciting semi-finals.
In Division One, BLD continued their run of success in the finals, downing S.A.T. 6-3, thanks to three 11/9 third game victories in the final round of singles.
Brendan Connolly came from a game down to take the last two games from Shaina Green 13/11, 11/9.
Leah Scott edged out Andrew Udal and Dallas McDermid did likewise against Tim Harris.
Earlier, Brendan beat Andrew and Tim in straight games, while Leah also beat Tim but had lost 11/9 in the third game in a typically hard-fought encounter with Shaina. Andrew and Shaina also beat Dallas in close matches.
In the other match, minor premiers Samwiches defeated Hasta Lavista 6-4, winning the first doubles to ensure victory.
As expected, Hayden Green won his three singles for Hasta Lavista in straight games, and Tahnee Green beat Jaiden Luthe in three games.
However, Sam Freeman beat Tahnee in straight games and Jaiden scored a very good three game victory over Nicholas Jefferson, leaving Hasta Lavista requiring all three doubles to force a draw.
Hayden and Nicholas led 7-5 in the first of these but were overwhelmed by Leyton Ey and Jaiden to give Samwiches an unassailable lead.
In division 2, Doritos scored a remarkable one-point win over Bacon Masters after the teams finished level on matches and games.
Dillon Whalley was Doritos' hero, winning his three singles including a straight games upset over Matthew Udal and a 12/10 third game thriller against Kye Meuli.
He then combined with Chelsea May to win the final doubles 11/7 to not only force the draw but clinch a place in the final by a solitary point in a countback.
Chelsea won two singles but lost to Matthew in straight games.
Natasha Jefferson played very well for Bacon Masters, winning the last singles against Luke Baillie and sharing doubles wins with Matthew and Kye.
Minor premiers, Xterminators were too strong for Three Musketeers, winning 7-3 in the other semi, though four of their singles wins came in the third game.
Kane Chantarat stepped in for the injured Lockie Green and beat Jake Checker in the opening singles, then Vinuka De Silva won in three against both Jake and Tayla Scott.
Odin Luketic also won in three games from Lleyton Peterson, losing the first then taking the last two 12/10, 11/9.
Previously, he had been unlucky to lose to Tayla 14/12 in the third game, then later beat Jake 11/9, 11/9.
Needing to win all three doubles, Tayla and Lleyton went down to Vinuka and Kane 13/11 to end their chances.
Firestorm reached the Division Three final after winning their semi against Awesome by a countback on games after the match was drawn 6-all.
William Stehbens won his three singles for Firestorm in straight games, backed by Ashleigh Geyer's two singles wins and a doubles.
Ollie Checker did not win a singles but scored valuable games in each defeat and shared the team's vital only doubles success with Ashleigh.
For Awesome, Keagan Geyer won two singles and both of his doubles, Penny Sheppard and Teagan Little winning one singles each.
In the other semi, Smarties were 7-1 winners against B. A. K. who were without Bailee Hancock.
While it was, Arnold Nguyen, Lucas Green and Courtney Little proved too consistent for Ari Tognolini and Adheesha Suraweera.
