Give big to Salvos appeal

VOLUNTEER doorknockers will be out in force across the region this weekend collecting for the Salvation Army's annual Red Shield Appeal.

Bundaberg Salvation Army Major Kevin Unicomb said the region had been very generous over the years, and this year the target for the Bundaberg region was $32,000.

"The appeal began this week and we have some static collection points already set up at places like Hinkler Central," Maj Unicomb said.

"We've also received a great response from the schools and about 250 students have volunteered as collectors this weekend.

"Collectors will be in the Bargara region on Saturday and in Bundaberg on Sunday."

Maj Unicomb was still there was still time for people to volunteer and help out this weekend.

"This year we will also hope to have collectors in areas like Rosedale and Agnes Water," he said.

Maj Unicomb said the funds from the appeal would go towards the many services the Salvation Army offered.

"This year the cost of operating the social work services we provide in Queensland and NSW is $39 million," he said.
