Get ‘reddy’ to help the Salvos

THE Salvation Army is hoping to raise $30,000 in its annual Red Shield doorknock appeal, which will be launched on Thursday.

Salvation Army Bundaberg spokesman Major Kevin Unicomb said the appeal would be launched with a business lunch at the RSL.

"This year we've taken a bit of a different direction," he said.

"This year the lunch is being sponsored.

"But we've appointed table captains who are business leaders, and asked each to recruit eight business people to come to the lunch."

The doorknock appeal for the Salvos' main fundraiser will be on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26.

Maj Unicomb said as many volunteers as possible would fan out across the region asking for donations.

He said there would also be some static collection points.

"Last year we had a static collection point in Hinkler Central, but obviously that won't happen this year," he said.
