Family loses third home to fire
FOR the third time in 10 years Rockhampton's Peter Marshall and Wendy Smith will be forced to start their lives over after their house burned to the ground.
The Morning Bulletin was yesterday unable to contact either of the co-owners of the Talford St home that was destroyed on Sunday, but understands that for them the devastation that comes with losing all of one's possessions in a house fire is all too familiar.
Just three years ago, Wendy and Peter were left to pick up the pieces after their George St home was gutted by fire.
In November 2001, the family's East St rental home was destroyed in a blaze.
Both times the contents were not insured, leaving the family with nothing.
In 2008, The Morning Bulletin reported that members of the community rallied around the family raising thousands of dollars to support them in their hour of need.
Members of the community were yesterday keen to show their support with a couple of inquiries from well wishers looking for ways to donate.
Police yesterday said investigations were continuing into the cause of the blaze, which broke out shortly before 6pm on Sunday.
Fire investigators examined the scene yesterday, but police are still awaiting the results.
Initial reports suggested five people were inside the house at the time, but all escaped without injury.
Two neighbouring houses also received some damage in the fire.
The Morning Bulletin received several supplied photos yesterday from members of the public who were quick to record the devastation.
