DARLING Downs South West Queensland maintained its undefeated record in a dominant performance against Bundaberg Composite in the final round of the Under-15 Development Carnival.

Darling Downs notched a comfortable 231 runs in the first innings and bowled Bundaberg Composite all out for 163.

The win secured Darling Downs' position at the top of the competition ladder on 65 points, followed by Gold Coast on 56 and South East Queensland on 48.

Coach Doug Lush said his players had risen to the occasion with a consistent effort.

"Each player has chipped in and made their presence known out there," he said.

"It's a fantastic carnival that consistently produces a high standard of cricket."

In the Gold Coast and Brisbane North match, Gold Coast batted first and scored 222.

In reply, Brisbane North was bowled out for 173.

In the game between South East Queensland and Bundaberg, South East Queensland scored 4-278.

In reply, Bundaberg was bowled out for 101.

About 75 youngsters competed in the competition.

The carnival is for talented cricketers who narrowly missed selection for representative teams in the state championships.

Bundaberg Cricket Association has organised and hosted the Under-15 Development Carnival for the past 20 years.

Association president Les Bennett said the event was an important primer for young cricketers with the potential to represent their state.

"We just like to see young cricketers in Queensland have the opportunity to better their game and push on to a higher level," Bennett said.

Bennett said Darling Downs South West Queensland had put on an impressive display of cricket.

"It was an excellent team effort from Darling Downs," he said.

"There were no stand-outs just 12 good young cricketers who played together as a team."

Carnival organiser Paul Denning said the carnival was an important chance for players to experience carnival style cricket and develop their playing stamina.
