Chinese dancers to help welcome year of the monkey
ARTISTS from Nanning Art Theatre and Guangxi Acrobatic Co will take part in the region's official celebrations to mark the Chinese New Year.
Community Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Judy Peters said the Bundaberg region was extremely fortunate to have talented performers from Nanning, Bundaberg's Chinese Sister City, involved in local celebrations on Saturday, February 13.
"On Saturday afternoon, Chinese artists will be headlining cultural concerts at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre commencing at 3.30pm and again at 6pm. These concerts will include dance, acrobatics, a vocal solo and the use of leaves and musical instruments!" Cr Peters said.
"These items will complement performances offered by local talent including the PCYC Blazers Lion and Dragon Dancers. This is a unique opportunity for our community to enjoy traditional Chinese entertainment and appreciate what is a beautiful culture."
Students from the Guangxi University, Nanning, will also take part in the local celebrations.
"Nanning university students will arrive in Bundaberg on 1 February to undertake a study tour program at CQU Bundaberg campus and will also contribute to several acts being performed at the Moncrieff theatre on Saturday."
Cr Peters said the colourful celebrations to mark the Year of the Monkey would take place in the CBD area from 3pm on Saturday, in addition to performances at the Moncrieff theatre.
"Chinese New Year celebrations will take over Bourbong Street between 3pm and 9pm on February 13 as we mark one of the most important events on the Chinese calendar," Cr Peters said.
