Children enjoy being under 8s

THE sound of laughter filled the air at Woongarra State School on Friday as parents, grandparents and carers joined the Prep to Year 2 children for Under-8s Day, as part of the national Under-8s Week program.

The annual event is an initiative of Early Childhood Australia with a theme "Everyone can play".

Celebrating with multiple activities from face painting, bracelet making and a visit from a police car, the schoolyard was alive with laughter.

Deputy principal Linda Oakley said the event had a great turn-out, with a range of activities for all the family.

"This year's event was very successful, with great weather the morning was organised and one of the best we have celebrated," she said.

"We also had parents participate and the Year 7 students helped organise the event and worked hard on the day," Ms Oakley said.

The event has been held at Woongarra State School for many years and Ms Oakley said it will definitely run for many more to come.
