INSPIRATIONAL cancer survivor Chelsea Stutchbury has been named at the first ambassador for Icon Cancer Foundation.
The 18-year-old Bundaberg local has always dreamed of becoming a singer but those dreams were put on hold when she was diagnosed with lymphoma two years ago while in Year 12.
Chelsea was treated at Icon Cancer Care and in her last month of treatment; she wrote the lyrics for her debut single Vincristine, co-written with Scott Aplin, musical director of The Voice Australia.
The song, named after the chemotherapy drug she was taking, is inspired by her battle with cancer and the fear treatment would affect her voice.
Becoming an ambassador for Icon Cancer Foundation means a great deal for Chelsea.
"It is an absolute honour to be an ambassador for Icon Cancer Foundation," she said.
"The Icon family of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, administration and support staff, as well as other patients I have met during my treatment, have been so very special to me.
"My amazing family have given me so much support during my treatment and I know there are many cancer patients who may not have such strong support groups."
"In this way, I am honoured to represent an organisation that can help support others through such a difficult time in their lives."
Chelsea's mother Judi Stutchbury is touched that Icon Cancer Foundation has chosen her for this role and is eager to help support clinical trials for new cancer treatments.
"So many people have done so much to save Chelsea's life and many other lives," she said.
"For Chelsea and our family it is an honour for her to be able to give back by being an ambassador."
"Clinical trials are so vital and without them my Chelsea and many others would not be here. We are forever grateful to Icon Cancer Foundation."
Icon Cancer Foundation CEO Fiona Jonker said she was delighted to work with Chelsea.
"From the minute you meet Chelsea you know she is a very special young lady," she said.
"The Icon Cancer Foundation is humbled by her enthusiasm and excitement to be our first ambassador.
"Chelsea will help raise awareness of the Foundation and the access we provide patients to clinical trials and our ongoing philanthropic activities towards better patient support."
Icon Cancer Foundation is a not-for-profit partner of Icon Cancer Care.
It provides patients with access to new and innovative treatments through clinical trials and engages in philanthropic initiatives to deliver patient support services.
Since being diagnosed with cancer Chelsea has had the opportunity to meet some of the music industry's biggest names including Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Delta Goodrem and INXS's Kirk Pengilly.
