Where to celebrate Australia Day in the region
A RANGE of organisations and venues are planning events to celebrate Australia Day.
Bundaberg Regional Council's official Australia Day celebrations will be held at the Botanic Gardens from 9am to 12.30pm, where the Bundaberg City Daybreak Rotary Club will host an Australia Day Fun Day.
Community services spokeswoman Judy Peters said the celebrations would include a variety of fun competitions and activities, as well as the chance to meet locals recognised with Australia Day Awards.
"The official welcome and recognition of the Australia Day award recipients will commence at 10am outside the Hinkler Hall of Aviation, which will be offering reduced entry prices and a complimentary ticket into Fairymead House," Cr Peters said.
"There'll also be children's entertainers, plenty of games and activities and a wide range of food available.
"As it's a day of celebration, we're encouraging people to have fun and take part in competitions such as thong throwing; lamington-eating; pie-eating; three-legged races and enjoy billy tea, damper and bush poetry.
"Buses will be available from the Bundaberg Post Office to the Botanic Gardens, leaving at 8.30am, 9am, 9.30am, 10am and 10.30am and returning from the gardens to the post office at 11.30am, 12pm, 12.30pm and 1pm."
Meanwhile The Dirty Creek Band will play at the Waves, Todd Keightley will be at the Agnes Water Tavern and Hats On will play at the Lighthouse Hotel.
The Lighthouse Hotel will also have raffles, toad races and kids' water activities.
The Queenslander Hotel will have a pillow fight competition, a jelly pool and lots of foam.
The Tattersalls Hotel will hold Australia Day celebrations with pool, darts and deck quoits as well as games and giveaways.
A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokeswoman said there were bigger tides at the moment as a full moon approached.
She said there was expected to be some rain tomorrow afternoon.
