MURDER UPDATE: Police found multiple sharp weapons in search
UPDATE: 3.47pm - ONE man is dead and another is in custody after a fatal stabbing in a Bundaberg park.
At about 9pm on Saturday police were called to a disturbance in Norville Park where a 38-year-old man's body was discovered near a park bench.
Detective Acting Inspector Wade Lee said officers found the deceased man with two stab wounds to his chest and stomach. Mr Lee said while the investigation was in its infancy, it was believed the two men had known each other for some time and became involved in a physical altercation.
The detective revealed it was an associate of the deceased, who was aware he was in the park at that time, who contacted police.
An arrest was made within hours of the incident and police were confident they have obtained the murder weapon.
"The investigation has identified a 29-year-old man that has been arrested for an offence of murder," Det Act Insp Lee said.
"He was found at a residence not far from the park within the Norville area.
"A forensic examination was undertaken and there was a number of sharp-edged weapons that were located... but it is believed that one of those weapons is the murder weapon."
Det Act Insp Lee said the accused, who was known to police, had received some injuries that were minor in nature as a result of the dispute.
A car attached to some witnesses at the scene was also searched for evidence.
"Any incident of this sort of nature brings some concern to police, but it's a lovely part of town," Det Act Insp Lee said.
A dog squad had also been deployed shortly after the incident however were police were not able to obtain any indication due to storm conditions.
"We're speaking to a number of witnesses that were in the vicinity at the time and we're appealing for anyone that might have information to contact Crime Stoppers or make contact with the Bundaberg investigation branch," Det Act Insp Lee said.
The motive for the alleged murder is still being investigated.
The alleged killer has been remanded in custody.
His bail has been rejected and he will appear before the Bundaberg Magistrates Court today.
