Big change to Macca’s Monopoly
MCDONALDS has other plans for ways to get your summer body in order.
Today marks the start of its annual Monopoly game, and according to the fast-food giant's Facebook page, there are more prizes to win this time than ever before - along with a controversial change to the playing board.
Players have noted the company has swapped the positions of the blue, yellow and green properties, throwing a spanner in the works of the board's traditional property hierarchy.
McDonald's yearly "collect to win" campaign began in 1987, and since then, the eat-your-way-to-a-prize competition is highly anticipated by fast-food fanatics around the nation.
This year's game starts in-store today and will run until October 29.
HOW TO PLAY
In you case you've been living under a rock for the past three decades and haven't played Macca's Monopoly before, here's how it works.
Head to your nearest McDonald's and purchase one of their participating products - a range of burgers, sides, beverages and desserts - valued at either one or two game tickets each. Purchase a medium or large extra value meal to increase your chances of winning.
You'll then find game tickets located on the packaging, which you peel off to reveal one of three different ways to win: an instant win, a collect to win, or a chance card.
The app also allows you to scan, stash and redeem all of your tickets.
If you were lucky and scored an instant win food prize, simply redeem your winning ticket at any McDonald's restaurant. For an instant win non-food prize, redeem on the app or enter your code here. And if you have a collect to win card up your sleeve, scan your tickets into the app, collect the entire colour set and redeem on the app. Keep your physical game tickets in a safe place - like on the game board, which can be collected from staff at your McDonald's restaurant - as you will need them to help you claim your physical prize.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
This year there are millions of prizes to be won, with thousands already claimed - putting the competitive nature of the traditional board game to shame.
Prizes fall into three categories - instant win, collect to win or Macca's food prizes.
Food prizes include burgers, breakfast menu items, beverages and desserts - all of which can be redeemed as soon you peel back the sticker.
Some of the bigger instant win prizes include vouchers, a seven-night European holiday for two, cars, jet skis and electronics.
And if you have the stamina (and appetite) to collect cards in order to win one of the collect-to-win prizes, you could be rewarded with $3000 cash from ShopBack, free fuel for a year, a car or even a Weber barbecue.
