Controversial post could shut down brand
AMERICAN tattoo artist Kat Von D runs one of the world's most successful cosmetics lines.
Von D rose to fame on reality show LA Ink and in 2008 she launched her own eponymous makeup range.
Her cult lipsticks and eyeliners are now stocked in Sephora stores globally and her brand is owned by parent company LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton), one of the world's biggest luxury companies.
But her multimillion-dollar brand could be in trouble thanks to a single Instagram post she made on the weekend.
Von D, a vegan who ensures all her products are not tested on animals, is currently pregnant with her first child but says she will not vaccinate her baby.
The tattoo artist, model and entrepreneur announced her pregnancy on the weekend via Instagram and says the birth will be "drug-free at home with our midwife and doulas".
In a follow-up post, she reiterated that she will be "having a natural, drug-free home birth in water with a midwife and doula … [with] the intention of raising a vegan child, without vaccinations."

The backlash was swift and harsh.
"Kat, would you tattoo a stranger with no gloves? I bet the answer is no. That is good, the answer should b no, you wouldn't want to expose yourself to hepatitis or HIV etc. NOT vaccinating your child is the same as you NOT wearing gloves. I beg of you … DO MORE research," wrote one fan on her Facebook page.
"Vaccinations are ESSENTIAL. by choosing not to vaccinate your child, you are putting not only them but others in danger too. by not vaccinating your child, you are opening them up to a world of diseases that would otherwise not be seen. I find it insane that you are all about 'cruelty free' in your brand, yet are making the decision to be so cruel to your child. ultimately, it's your decision, I just hate to see a poor kid put in danger because of parents' ignorance," another post stated.
Many of her customers took to social media to say they would no longer be purchasing her products.
"Not vaccinating, not buying your products then if you're going to bring a child into this world then understand we all care about our children just as much and don't want them getting deathly ill from the choice you make with yours. It's selfish. Unlike and no longer supporting and giving you any of my money," one commenter wrote.
Others have shared other vegan and cruelty-free makeup brands customers can purchase instead.

Sephora and LVMH are yet to comment on the controversy and only time will tell if this has a dehabilitating impact on her makeup sales.
