Alloway and Blazers on fire in Division 1

BEING defending premiers is a tough title because every other team wants to beat you and each week Alloway hit the court in the Bundaberg Division 1 competition it's faced with a determined team at the other end of the court.

At the weekend Brothers Hurricanes took the fight to Alloway and was behind 19-10 at half-time, but when goal attack Lauren Segon hit form in the second half Alloway ran out comfortable 46-24 winners.

The start of the games was frustrating for both teams as the players made some silly mistakes which the other team took advantage of.

The angst from both coaches could be heard as they talked to the players on court.

There didn't seem to be a lot of communication on court between the Brothers players and Alloway took advantage of this in the second half of the game when they patiently took every opportunity to get the ball to their shooting circle.

Shooters Katherine D'Albret and Segon made the most of their opportunities to bring it home with a nearly 90% shooting rate.

In the other game it was a fantastic match with the youth of the ATW Blue team placed against the experience of Blazers Luxfield team.

It was clear that the players in ATW Blue have played together previously as they passed the ball down the court with confidence but it wasn't enough when there was too much skill in the Blazers circle and led by Jaizdon Corrigan won 47-20.

The Blazers shooters, Corrigan and Breeanne Heidke, moved around the shooting circle with ease, reading the play well enabling them to pull away in the second quarter and not look back. 7
