Alleged motel brothel boss to negotiate nitty gritty
A 53-year-old woman has faced court charged with operating an illegal brothel from a Sunshine Coast motel.
Yan Jiang appeared at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday after detectives in December closed an investigation into illegal sex work at Mooloolaba.
Police at the time said $10,000 cash was seized near Brisbane Rd during the arrest of three Chinese nationals allegedly involved with the illegal brothel.
Ms Jiang did not enter a plea on Wednesday to five charges including having an interest in premises used for the purposes of prostitution, knowingly carrying on the business of providing unlawful prostitution, knowingly participating in prostitution and possessing tainted property.
Lawyer Luke Bull, appearing as town agent for Russo lawyers, asked the matter be adjourned so the facts could be discussed with police.
He said Ms Jiang, from Mooloolaba, did not speak English well.
Ms Jiang told magistrate Maxine Baldwin that she understood her charges.
Her matter was adjourned to February 15.
Jia Meng, 46, and Linli Gao, 33, each faced two charges of possessing tainted property and one charge of engaging in prostitution through an unlawful prostitution business.
Their matters were adjourned to January 28.
